In fact, these are the exact words I hear the most from our clients, “Vrunda I'm really frustrated because people love my free stuff, but they won't pay for my actual products and services. Why is that? What am I doing wrong?” Well, first of all, you're probably chasing people who you know deep down are not going to become actual clients. Building a solid long term business is a lot easier when prospective clients contact you rather than constantly contacting them.
That's why if you learn how to get clients online, not only will you bypass the wrong prospects, you won't have to waste your precious time, energy, and money on networking events, schmoozing, cold-calling or trying to set “appointments” with people who are not interested. This is what I call “the curse of the unqualified lead” – the prospect who doesn't value your time or the solutions you offer to your clients and customers.
So how do we fix this problem? We do it by setting up a system that attracts only people who are genuinely interested in investing in your products and services. Plus, the tire kickers will be weeded out before they even get the chance to waste your time. This is how you do it.
Here are 4 Steps to Attract Paying Clients Online
Step #1: Focus on Targeted Marketing
Most solopreneurs and small business owners waste time and money on ineffective marketing and advertising trying to nurture the wrong prospects. If you need to convince or pressure a prospect to become a client, then you attracted the wrong person into your brand and you'll feel the stress that comes with forcing a sale vs. letting a prospect naturally become a client because it's their idea, not yours.
Don't focus on attracting a large amount of unqualified leads, but on attracting the right leads for you and your business. That means knowing the exact type of client you want to work with and letting go of those who don't fit your ideal customer persona. This brings out a lot of fear in people because they don't want to miss out on more clients and sales.
The reality is, if you want to succeed, market to the needles, not to the haystack. That's how you'll weed out people who don't want to buy from you and save yourself a lot of heartache. You can definitely automate this process through a simple sales funnel that will weed out the unqualified prospects and nurture the right ones to a buying decision. More on that later...
Step #2: Create Irresistible Free & Paid Offers
You must have a juicy lead magnet that seamlessly leads to an irresistible paid offer.
What's a lead magnet? It's the free resource you give away on your website in exchange for a prospect's name and email address. It can anything from a how to guide, a checklist, templates, a webinar and so on.
Now for those of you who have prospects who only want your free resources (as in your lead magnet) but then don't want to pay for your program or service, the problem is with your offer. There's a disconnect between the lead magnet and the offer because the former is strong, but the latter is weak. Remember, your paid offer must be irresistible. It must provide tremendous value for the price they're investing. But most important of all, it must provide real, tangible results. People will buy when they feel certain that they're getting a real solution that works and is laid out for them in a simple action plan that they can follow.
Step #3: Create a Nurture Sequence with Great Content
What's a nurture sequence? It is actually the heart of on online sales funnel. It's a series of emails that you send to your prospects after they've opted in for your free resource. Now here is the big difference between the old way of getting clients and the way to attract them online. A nurture sequence gives you the power to connect with your prospects in a way that is valuable to them because instead of phone calls, and chasing, they're getting real value from you.
Each email you send directs them to a piece of content that goes deeper on their biggest pain points in an educational and entertaining way! This is so powerful because not only does it free you from stress and aggravation, but it automates your selling process while building a solid relationship with prospects. Big bonus here is that the content you send them also builds your credibility as an expert in your field.
Step 4: Make it Easy to Become a Client with 1 Click
Here is where your nurture sequence delivers results for you. The last email you send will be your offer. It can be an a single click within the email that takes prospects to your sales or checkout page. Or, if you're a service based business, a single click on a link in your email can take prospects to your calendar to schedule an appointment with you to become your client. Do you see the difference? After learning from your lead magnet and your other content, the prospect wants to talk to you about becoming a client and schedules a call with you, not vice versa.
This means that they've “pre-qualified” themselves to become your client. The wrong prospects will never make it to the phone call and the right ones are your most highly qualified leads who are ready to invest with you on the call. That's how you enroll paying clients and customers online. And it's all done with a simple funnel that does the selling for you!
